These Advanced Right Brain Phonics Cards are designed to make decoding longer and more complex words easier for older students who still struggle with reading.

Many bright students reach upper elementary or middle school still guessing at unfamiliar words. The challenge is often not intelligence—it’s that the phonics patterns were never fully stored in long-term memory. These cards use Dianne Craft’s Right Brain IMBEDDING Technique to help students quickly store advanced phonics patterns so they can recognize them automatically while reading.

The Right Brain is the brain’s visual memory center, often called our “photographic memory.” When the letters are placed directly on top of a memorable picture that produces that sound, the brain stores the image and the phonics pattern together as a single unit. When the picture comes to mind, the sound pattern comes with it—making decoding faster, easier, and far less frustrating.

This whole-brain strategy allows older struggling readers to finally master the more advanced phonics combinations found in upper-level reading, helping them tackle longer vocabulary words used in science, literature, and everyday reading.

Students simply keep the Advanced Phonics Cards on the table in front of them while reading from the Advanced Right Brain Phonics Book. The cards act as a quick visual reference until the patterns become automatic—and before long, students find they rarely need to look at them at all.
